This weekend, I enjoyed spending a couple of early hours at the Houston Zoo’s photo day (Thanks to V!). Among the many exotic species I was able to photograph was the Bali Mynah. What a pretty bird!

Birding Mondays: A Yellow Warbler in the Galapagos

I’m starting a few new weekly themes to make sure I keep this blog alive outside the monthly desktop calendar. Mondays are going to be Birding mondays with a new post every week from my collection of bird images. Starting it off with the striking yellow warbler photographed in Santiago Island in the Galapagos in Dec ‘08. This is the male yellow warbler with his red crest and streaks on his neck.

I’ve come to realize over the past few months that I’ve been posting these calendars, that one size doesn’t always fit all. Many use Windows with the icons on the left and some use a mac with icons on the right side. Many use a standard aspect ratio monitor, while others have a widescreen. So keeping those in mind, I have 4 different versions of my desktop calendar. This one below is for a standard resolution Windows computer, and the rest are linked below. Enjoy!

And yeah, this photo was taken from the hillocks of Thiruparankundram in my hometown, Madurai.

Usually, I’m not a big fan of heavy post-processing, but once in a while you come across an image that looks so different when its manipulated. Can anyone guess the work I did on this one.

The photo was taken at the St. Paul’s episcopal church near the Museum of fine arts in Houston in 2006.

A Volcanic Eruption

With all the news about the volcanic eruptions in Iceland, it took me to the two days we spent at the foothills of an erupting Mt.Tungurahua at Banos, Ecuador. It wasnt then a violent eruption, just a steady plume of smoke and a constant rumble as lava lay seething inside the giant volcano.
