Reflections – April A to Z Challenge
I jumped into the challenge head-first. I heard about it (at the last minute) and decided to write short stories/scenes. The timing was awful, the pressure high but I jumped in. I am glad I did. I realized I can push myself and I should do it more often.
Will I do it again? Of course I will surely do it again but with better planning and scheduled post. I am also confident that I can tackle NaNoWriMo coming November.
I discovered some great blogs and bloggers (I need to stop by and comment soon. I have not been able to do that in addition to the writing). This is one of the best parts of blogging. You discover people who turn to friends. I am so excited.
I gained some new readers. It is always thrilling to see a new name in the comment box. So if you are a lurker leave a comment. I would love to connect.
I started seeing things differently. A lot of my short scenes were inspired by things around me – the curtains post was based off the orange curtains I used to have in my Houston home and how kuttyma was fascinated by them. The R post was based of 2 kids who traveled in the same flight as I did early April. The S post was based off my love for the swings at the playground in Chennai.
I realized I am a very visual kind of person. I needed see my inspirations to write. Google turned out to be my best friend and I cannot believe how much I relied on it to get some words out.
I referred to the dictionary and thesaurus more than I had ever done in my life. I think my grandfather must be smiling at me. He used to demand that I pull the dictionary out every time I guessed the meaning of a word. I miss his old dictionary – the 3000+ page monster that used to gather dust in his desk. I use an online version these days.
I couldn’t have done it without support. I had quite a few cheerleaders – family and friends. They threw words at me, sent encouraging words, left comments and were there for me. Gratitude is such a small word to describe what I feel. Thanks for all the love.
Now I need to catch up on my reading and other writing commitments. I have been so behind with the April A to Z craze. Oh yeah! I already have ideas for April 2015 🙂
