Voices from Chernobyl: A Oral History of the Nuclear Disaster

Chernobyl fascinates me. I have always been drawn to it. This book broke me into pieces. It presents the personal accounts of the people who lived. Heartbreaking. Real. Fierce. Sad.

Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard

This book had been languishing in my to-read list for a long time and I finally picked it up. I feel in love with the eccentricity of the book. More than the characters, the scenes painted by Desai stay with me. I could see the bazaar, the wedding, the orchard in my mind. The story was ok but the writing made me happy. Would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read something different.

We are Water by Wally Lamb

Family Sagas are one of my favorite genres to read and this was my first Lamb novel. This book takes us through modern America. It takes us through changing values and embracing diversity. A family saga set in modern world. I loved the way the novel introduced the characters and moved it around. The past blended in with the present via art. It is a long read but worth every minute.

The one thing I didn’t relish was the drama at the end/climax. It kind of looked forced but it worked. I am sure to be picking more of Lamb’s works in the future.

Addition by Toni Jordan

Grace Vandenburg the protagonist in this book is someone I would love to know. She loves numbers and everything has to add up. From the number of poppy seeds on her cake to the table she sits in and to the number of bananas she buys in the store. She loses her job as a teacher and this start going out of whack.

I really wanted to love this book. I fell in love with the characters but I could not get myself to love the book.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

Another book from my to-read list. I have no clue why I added this book to my to-read list. I am quite sure it was recommended to me by someone. What an amazing piece of history. I did not know about HeLa cells and it was quite an eye-opener.
