5 FREE kid-friendly things to do in Singapore
22 months in Singapore – we scoured all over the city-country to discover what we loved to do and keep us busy. Free and kid-friendly things we loved to do in Singapore.
The National Library
The Bugis library with its newly added Tree house is a treat for any kid. Book lovers can spend hours and hours. They always have something interesting happening and going on. I make sure we visit the place once in a couple of months. Story-telling sessions and craft sessions for kids happen at regular frequency and unfortunately I have never had the opportunity to go to one of these sessions.
The regional libraries and community libraries are also great. I tried to visit as many as possible but obviously did not cover every single one. Our favorites for kid-friendly fun are Marine Parade Library, Toa Payoh, Woodlands Library and Sengkang Library.
Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden
A part of the Singapore Botanic Garden, this place is a child’s dream come true. Sand pit, water play, tree house slides, suspension bridge, waterfall – this place has it all. It has some great educational elements about plants and it is a family favorite. Unfortunately, we have been there only once (we lived quite far from the place). But it is a great place to spend a humidity-free day.
Laser Show at MBS
Most people dismiss this as a tourist trap. Kuttyma finds it fascinating. The colors reflected on the water and on the Art and Science Museum is a treat. The view is much better when you are on the MBS side (watching it from the Merlion park is not bad either – the picture below is a view from the Merlion Park)
People watching at the ice rink is also fun. Grab a seat at the MBS food court early on a weekend and enjoy the skaters.
Esplanade Free Shows
The Esplanade offers a bunch of free shows. We like the ones at the outdoor theater. We have seen everything from puppet shows to piano recitals from around the world. The ambiance is great and the location is one of the best Singapore’s best.
Gardens by the Bay
This garden ranks very high in my list of favorite places to visit. It is beautiful and a great educational experience. The super trees put up a great show at nights. On some of the humidity free nights (yes Singapore has few of those) take a seat in the Supertree Grove, watch them glow and then turn your head towards the Marina Bay Sands.
Other places we enjoy
- Fort Canning Park
- Kite watching/flying at Marina Barrage
- East Coast Park
