Book Review : An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination

Another book I heard about on NPR that made it to my list.

I started this book, a few pages into it – all I wanted to do is write about my pregnancy in the same, smooth but memorable way Elizabeth McCracken had documented her 9 months. My story is way different from hers but I wanted to do it. That is the power of books. They make you want to explore the areas you have never gone before. I might actually do it. 1.5 years after my pregnancy I see it differently and feel differently but not really different. If I ever write the story of my pregnancy, it will be on this blog and inspired by this book.

At first thought, this book is not something you would want to pick up – a memoir about a stillborn baby boy aka Pudding. That is what it is all about. But what I love about it is the way Elizabeth writes it. An easy read and I related well maybe because I am mother and I went down the pregnancy journey myself not long back. The book is beautifully written and the pain is devastating. It is a book you should read if you want a book to think about, a book to relish, a book to remind you about the power of a mother, and a book to remind you love is unconditional.

It is not a story. It is not fiction. It is life and it happens to many people. But a few write about it. And very few write it as beautifully as McCracken.

A must read
