Book Review : House Rules

I do not remember how I picked this book up. I am pretty sure I heard/read about it somewhere so I added it to my list.

I have mentioned this before, I get influenced by books a lot. I have not learned to separate the book and my emotions. I stayed away from chick-lit for the longest time just for this case. My last chick-lit was the Twilight series. But now getting back, I wanted to read this book but unfortunately I picked this book at a time when I was going through an emotional upheaval. Bad timing and this book sure did its number on me. I got over it and here is the review.

The book is about Jacob, a 18 year old with Aspergers and obsessed with crime and crime-solving. The book talks about the single mother, Emma dealing with a kid with Aspergers and a younger brother trying to escape reality but ridden with guilt. Within this is woven a murder – a crime. The research and the details of the book are wonderful. The book flows and you really want to wrap it up. Half-way through you understand how the book is going to end or atleast I did but I still wanted to read it and complete the book.

The title of the book – House Rules is a simple set of rules set by mom Emma and like any person with Aspergers – rules mean a world to Jacob. The book revolves around a rule which my mother repeats often to us – “Take care of your brother, he is the only one you have got”

Pick it up when you want a weekend read and you will not be disappointed.

Behind all the controversy about vaccines, autism and aspergers, this book touches a cord. Like any mother, I did my research about vaccines and the link – scary!
