Book Review : One Day
This book was in a summer read list somewhere and I picked it up! The cover – what did it remind me of ofcourse the one book that I hated.
One day – the specialty of this book is that it tracks the life of Emma and Dexter on July 15th every year from the year they graduate. Emma and Dexter, move away but keep in touch through a series of ups and downs. Tex-Mex restaurants to Greece to India – the story of Em and Dex go on. It is kind of light, sweet but really nothing special. Em loves Dex but Dex is really not convinced. Dex becomes a father – Em is the god mother and now a writer. Dex and his wife separate and I tell myself finally Em and Dex are getting together and the book will end.
I was right and wrong – Em and Dex get together but I see another 100+ pages looming ahead of me and I knew Nicholls was going to kill either Dex or Em. I kind of thought Dex was going to be axed (I am not going to tell you if I was right)
The book is so predictable – I mean there is nothing to it. But it is written well – it flows, it creates some great laughs, describes people/characters so beautifully and it throws some unexpected turns. But it really did not hit me as a great book
An ok summer read if you are into romances and aww moments
