Book Review – The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake
Did the title and cover grab your attention? It did mine when I hit Borders for their liquidation sale. I later picked this book up at the library.
Remember this book? The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake reminded me of that. Both books are very different takes on human pain and emotion. It is usually not my genre of choice but it works.
On her 9th birthday, Rose starts tasting the emotions of the chef just by eating the food they prepare. Thus begins her journey through food tastings and teenage. She tastes her mother’s guilt and it makes her feel uncomfortable. How Rose grows up and finds her own space in the world is what this book is about.
This book is no fairy tale but it left me wishing it was a fairy tale with more happiness sprinkled around.
An ok read
