Day trip to Bundaberg
Remember this trip to visit the turtles? After visiting the turtles on Saturday night, we spent a lazy morning discovering Bundaberg.
You might have heard of Bundaberg Rum or Bundaberg Ginger Beer – this place is the home to both of them. The name itself is fascinating Bunda come from the aboriginals and berg is of course the German contribution.
The place is filled with sugarcane fields and macadamia plantations. The area is very fertile and along the way there are farms which pretty much supply vegetables and fruits. Bundaberg sugar is a staple around here.
We spent the night at Bandera – a seaside town. I cannot believe how many such towns with beautiful waters dot the Australian coastline. The place has beautiful seafront play areas, picnic grounds and restuarants.
We stopped by the Bundaberg Barrel where they have an interactive tour of the process of making ginger beer. The Bundaberg Rum Factory also has a tour for visitors.
We spent sometime by the riverside enjoying the simplicity. I find life in Australia very simple at times.
