Cooking with kids: Chocolate Frosting
Kuttyma and I baked a cake (we took the easy route and used a butter cake mix) and decorated it for R’s birthday.
The chocolate frosting was really simple and easy. It comes together quick enough to hold the attention of a 3-year old. It also gave my 3-year old a reason to get excited about her dad’s birthday
Recipe adapted from All Recipes
1 1/4 cup icing sugar
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
3 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
Sift the icing sugar and cocoa powder together. This is a great step for kids to help in. Kuttyma was rather fascinated by the process. Cream the butter using the mixer. Slowly add in the sifted mix (another step for the little helper to assist). Add in condensed milk and water alternatingly till you reach the required consistency. The frosting is not super sweet. It has a teeny hit of bitterness and my little girl loves it.
Lick, Spread it on the cake, decorate with sprinkle and lick again.
I used some of the frosting in sandwiches for lunch the next day. Super delish
