December Nostalgia
It is time to wrap up another year. Wrap up those memories and store them for a lifetime and more. Wrap up those lessons learned the easy way and the ones learned the hard way and carry them forever. The month is so special to me. It is no surprise that December comes with so many sweet memories. May be it is because of the holidays, may be it is because the end of a year leaves a mark on me. But I have so much memories of December – the 12th month.
There are two things I look forward at the start of December every year – my bro’s birthday and Karthigai. It might sound cheesy and funny but I still remember vividly so many things from the year my bro was born. Starting from me being sick to choosing the Superstar chocolates…
Karthigai by far is my favorite festival of the year. I love the way the house looks lit up with lamps. I loved the colorful rangolis, the new dress I saved from Deepavali just for Karthigai, and the fun the Karthigai brings along. Karthigai is always a working day during school days and falls smack in the middle of exam season but nothing could stop me from celebrating it….
December brings in other memories…. the Margazhi Masam color kolams gracing the household, the December poo blooms and the early morning dew. Each one of these are so vivid in my mind’s eye. It has been more than 5 yrs since I did any of these but they are special…
And how can I forget the pretty Christmas stars and fruit cakes making its way at the end of the year and the list of new year resolutions…
December is my month for flashbacks and nostalgia every year. I look back and smile, cry, and move on. I have been doing exactly the same thing the past couple of weeks. I will attempt to put in few of those thoughts into words but some of them stay with me as lessons learned, plans formed and dreams come true.
I love this month and all it brings along and best part… I am off for a much needed break starting this weekend. Will try to blog from somewhere but if it is not possible we meet again 2009! Have a wonderful festive season and hope 2009 brings all you desire!
