I: Ice Cream
Childhood memories without ice creams? How can that be? My earliest memories of ice cream revolves around two places – Michael’s Ice Creams and Sea Kings. While I was learning to drive, my grandfather used to tempt me with Sea Kings. I would drive along with him along the deserted, dusty lanes of Trichy and indulge in cutlets and ice cream.
Peach Melbas, Cassatas, Rocky Road, Faloodas and more. Sea Kings menu was quite extensive. If I try hard enough, I can smell the place and see the counters and backless stainless steel stools. Another piece of my childhood.
A treat to savour
Cool explosion in the mouth
Turn spoon for a lick
That cone of goodness
Pink tongue darting in and out
Frozen ambrosia
That round silver bowl
Mounds of snow, coloured snow
With cherry on top
Sticky and sweet hands
The orange cone disappears
And the tongue tingles
Rocky Road, Cassatta
Vanilla clings to the air
Falooda, Peach Melba
Celebrations, dates
Ice Cream always meant Sea Kings
Heartaches, heart breaks too
Tomorrow, J: Joys of childhood.
