Lunar New Year Crafts for Kids
The Lunar New Year is celebrated very grandly in Singapore and you just fall into the spirit of it whether you celebrate or not.
Kuttyma wanted to make cards for her friends. A quick count made me realize we need to make 20+ cards. I decided to do different kinds of cards using various mediums to keep her from boredom.
Here are some simple crafts you can make
Card 1: Spring Blossoms
The Lunar New Year heralds in Spring and it is very common to decorate with peach/cherry blossoms for the season. These pretty pink flowers are my favorite.
Tissue paper, glue and a crayon was all we needed.
Card 2: Mandarin Oranges
During the Chinese New Year the Mandarin Orange takes center stage. People exchange oranges as a sign of luck and prosperity.
For our oranges cards we used orange paint, dish cleaning plastic sponge (a new one) and markers
Card 3: Chinese Lanterns
Paper lanterns scream China don’t they? They are beautiful and seem like balloons floating in the sky. We used circle stickers and got to work.
We used round stickers (these were supposed to be price tags and are a great crafting supply to keep handy) and markers
Card 4: Fish
Fishes are special to the Chinese. Fishes are believed to bring in prosperity and wealth. Handprint fishes was our idea of messy fun.
Red paint (red is an auspicious color) and some markers and we were ready to go
These are our Lunar New Year craft
