Strangely I have not been on a vacation in forever. Yes yes! I made frequent trips to India to recharge but that was home. You know what I mean? The thrills of a new destination, new culture, new people, hotel room and eating out every meal? I did not have one in ages.
Baby bro KA made a quick stopover in Singapore and we headed out to Bali. Kuttyma, Baby Bro and I had a blast. I did not click many pictures as I was savoring the moment and worrying about reality (yes I am one of those who worries about the laundry piling up when we are on a beach vacation)
Spotted this on a tour agency ad – check out the third paragraph
Everything that screams Bali – a view of the pool at the Laguna Resort
Bird Cages are extremely popular in Bali. Many people own birds. I am not quite onboard with the idea of having birds as pets but bird cages make beautiful decor pieces. Here is one such decorated at the Laguna Resort
Rattan – do I say more?
The Civet Cat – have you heard about Kopi Luwak? The coffee made from beans ingested by Civet cats? We visited a coffee plantation where they did it. Met some civet cats and fed them coffee berries.
And did a coffee/tea tasting also
Batik – love them! Handmade batik square crochet bedspread for sale near the Rice Terraces in Ubud
A vacation should be like this – by the beach at night – The Laguna Resort
Sarong wearing Ganesha/Pillaiyar was enjoying his coffee
This is a fruit called Salak aka Snake fruit. It has a crunchy apple like texture but much sweeter and acidic. I was not in love with the flavor but it was quite interesting
Granny square sheets for sale in Ubud. I need to make one of these someday
Batik meets Disney. There were adorable Disney Batik dresses and shirts for kids at the Batik Keris stores (at Discovery Mall and the Denpasar Airport)
Wedding decor made of bamboo and palm. I am trying to convince my brother that if ever he gets married he should do so in Bali – where else can we see such beauty
Even walls tell tales
The Kuta Beach – surprisingly not much of shells in Bali – mostly rocks and stones
The Uluwatu temple in twilight
Bamboo is such an integral part of the lives of people in Bali. I love this simplistic floral arrangement at the Laguna Bali
The Rindik – Bamboo xylophone. Kuttyma had a blast attempting to play it. It will be the proud mommy moment of the trip
Balinese Temple architecture is so different from the Indian temples yet so similar
Spectacular sunsets – this one was at the Denpasar Airport on the day we left
Surfers had a blast at Kuta. I think I want to learn to surf – well someday
