Sea Creatures Craft Galore
Kuttyma’s school has a “My Exciting Weekend” board where kids can display pictures/news about their weekends. Since our trip to Heron Island we planned to work on a mini project for the board. We spent 4-5 days to get the project done and worked through a variety of media. It was a great way to document and refresh her memory.
Envelope Lemon Shark
There were so many different kids of sharks we spotted at Heron Island. The lemon shark was the one that stayed in kuttyma’s memory because of the association to the fruit. This was a quick and simple craft ideal for little hands.
Handprint Crabs
We spotted green colored crabs on the rocks and tried reproducing them.
Sandpaper Sea Stars
Did you know that sea stars do not have blood? It was quite an interesting fact I learned.
Pipe cleaner snail
This was little difficult for kuttyma to do. She could not bend the pipe cleaner to shape. She needed quite a lot of help to finish her snail
Cut-out stingray
She deicded the colors, colored the sting ray and cut it out by herself! I am shocked.
She also found a bag of foam stickers and selected the birds and turtles to decorate the chart. Heron island is a turtle conservation area. During season turtles lay eggs on the island and the hatchlings are then guided to the sea by volunteers. Unfortunately when we went it was not the turtle season and we did not spot any turtles. We did see some turtle marks on the sand. They kind of look like tire marks (we actually thought they were tire marks till the guide explained what they were). Kuttyma decided to decorate the stingray with turtles all around it. I was quite surprised on how creative she is getting.
