SF leading the way
Houston’s recycle program is voluntary and has been known to be not so effective and now San Fransisco leads the way with a mandatory composting program. A good move but will it work out? Will it be a success? Guess we just have to wait and see.
For years in the small suburban community we lived in Trichy we had no public trash pick up and with 99% of our household waste being biodegradable we composted our waste. We used to have two large pits in our garden where kitchen and garden trash used to be dumped and every few months, the pits will be covered with sand and allowed to compost. Later, the composted material would be used as fertilizer in our gardens. With the use of more plastics and the availability of trash pickup services this practice slowly died down.
Now I see SF’s initiative I am glad and maybe it is time I started composting my kitchen waste .
