Sick Day Parenting Rules

Sick Day Parenting Rules

Kuttyma is sick. She has an ear infection and is running a temperature. Today is the second day I have kept her away from school. She is cranky, moody and out of sorts when she has temperature. Then she gets bored and starts whining when the medicine kicks in and her fever reduces. She refuses to rest and hates being coped up.

To help deal with sick days, I have a set of sick day rules at home. They help me stay sane.

No outdoor play:

The yard seems be extremely alluring when sick. This usually happens around midday when the medicine had kicked in and boredom has set. I feel that resting indoors all day is a must on a sick day.

No TV:

TV time remains Friday nights. We don’t turn on the TV just because it is a sick day. It also means I have to spend more time entertaining her.

Restricted Reading Time:

If you know kuttyma, you know she can read all day and night. She is ready to give up sleep to read (sounds familiar?). We have 20 minute reading windows after which she needs to close her eyes and rest.

Sick Day

We do crafts – we have done numerous fuse bead project (a post on that is coming soon) and gone through our stash of Christmas and Valentine’s Day clearance activities. Kuttyma has spent time chatting with family and created cards for them.

Hopefully kuttyma will be back in school on Monday and stay healthy.

Awww, hope she feels better soon. As for the reader, yes I have one at home so I know exactly what you mean.

There are times when reading became a bane. I think I need to do a post about that sometime.
