Singapore Library
One of the first things I did after moving to Singapore is to join their public library system. Some of my most memorable times in Houston revolve around the Houston Library. After Houston’s extensive library system, Singapore Library system was a bummer.
It is not bad – it is infact great but I have not picked the books I love at my neighborhood library or at the national library. It is also got to do with my evolving tastes in books and my lack of time but still I felt let down. I have not picked up a great fiction at the Singapore library yet. The non-fiction has a great selection. The preschooler section is not bad either. I especially love the toddler tamil section.
I will have great memories of the Singapore Library without doubt. We spent 2-4 hours every week there and end up picking the alloted 8 books. But then I miss the 50 book limit and the easy internet hold system the Houston Library offered.
And like everything in Singapore the library is cozy – too cozy for my comfort that I tend to call it crowded. Sigh
Will I ever stop comparing the two places?
And on the note of books – I am loving “Good Reads ” app. Anyone on it? Please get on if you are serious about reading – I am looking for motivation to get back to reading

March 29, 2012 at 6:14 pmI never use any online app for my activities other than my work, and as a luxury, the blogs. I find them too distracting. As is, the google reader is getting on my nerves at the distractions it offers and I keep wondering if I should close that down as well. I keep appointments the old fashioned way – in my head (and haven’t missed a single one yet), I keep deadlines in my head (and haven’t missed a single yet), and going by the same logic, kept the list of books I read in my head- which sadly doesn’t work too well, given my far-less-than-good memory – that’s why I resorted to reviewing them in my blog because that way, I not only keep track of the books I read (why should anyone keep track? I don’t know) but also flex the grey cells in writing the review.

March 30, 2012 at 11:55 amHats off! I do not complain about my memory. I remember things pretty well but I love lists of any kind. I have pages and pages of lists – I love opening it once a day and scratching off things and adding new stuff. It is almost an obsession. I also love looking back at old lists and smiling about things that were.
