Some Laughs

Kuttyma says the darnest things. It is the cute innocent stage that blows me away. I often wish I could whip out the camera and record every second of her life. I do not think I was so deeply in love with her when she was born. Is it possible to fall deeper in love as she grows?

Here are some of our “talks”

Me: Kuttyma how old are you?

Her : Two

(R and me exchange glances – you know the kind parents always seem to be doing? Yes we have become “that kind” of parents)

R: Good Job! How old is daddy?

Her: Three

(ROFLing)

Me: How old is mommy?

Her: One!

******

I am lying down in bed one Sunday morning just browsing and tweeting

Her: Sunshine shining mommy – wake up

Me: Gasp! So I cannot take a nap during daytime

Her: Yes – sunshine

Me: Who told you that?

Her: V aunty (A’s mommy)

V aunty I am so mad at you for teaching my daughter such stuff but then truthfully I know V aunty would not have made such a statement even for fun. And ofcourse my daughter has not “talked” to V aunty in nearly a month. Fertile imagination I say.

********

She: Alligator bite mommy, Alligator bite (pointing to a tiny scratch or itch)

Ever since we told her a story about an alligator grabbing the elephant’s leg and the elephant screaming in pain – every small bite turns into a huge alligator bite

*********

Attempting to teach her Thirukural (Couplets in Tamil) when she was in no mood to learn

Me: அகர

Her: No அகர

Me: முதல

Her: No முதல

Being the great kid she is – she repeated the entire kural after me pre-fixing with a No. Thiruvalluvar (the guy who wrote them) would probably be turning in his grave as he hears my daughter butcher his words.

SB – Well I have had discussions previously on my blog (check the archives) about who wrote Thirukural and have had some great talks with experts on the topic but they are unfortunately not pertinent to the post so they do not figure here. Hurting Tamil sentiment? Lol! now that is hilarious! I write what I feel like – I need not showcase my respect for a language, a piece of art, a person or anything else from falling at someone’s feet which seems to be a prevelant Tamil culture 😉

And if you really like my blog why not share more about you! I love to know more about my readers

and just FYI – I have a feeling I know whom I am talking with

I i know u live in singapore…. i was referring to ur 7 year Houston influence…. American indians start thinking they can breathe the way americans do…but sadly they merely end up only wiping instead of washing !!

hmmm….interesting… well .. then why did you not mention the research in the first place??? …..i do know he is a guy as in MALE but i thought u were clever enough to understand the underlying innuendo i was referring… just like referring to Lord krishna or Lord Murugan as the ‘guy’ who saved Draupadi or in the latter’s case who practiced polygamy…well….. we just don’t demean them….. similarly my dear darling… thiruvalluvar was a great Tamil saint and I dont know about the research , but do believe he is atop Tamil minds and Tamils teach thirukural in schools and take him as teacher. u rather not unknowingly hurt any Tamil sentiment, u urself being a ‘Tamizh pen’ i assume !! – my 4 cents !! 🙂

hey,by the way… u really got a great site out there … keep up the good work…….

@SB – I do not live in Houston just FYI and there is a lot of research that point fingers in the direction of a clan of people writing the Thirukural together and not an individual – I personally believe that it is true. Nothing against Thiruvalluvar and yes just incase you do not realise he is a guy who is supposed to have written it. Nothing disrespectful at all – just my 2 cents

Thiruvalluvar – ‘the guy who wrote it’…… did not go down well with me…u want the moral in the kural….. give the great SAINT some respect yaar….HOUSTON does change people into hypocritic buggers – To You miss American Desi jo do jahaan key beech mein phasi !

Sometimes I think I prefer the solla matten to the prefixing Nos
