Talking Tragedies with Kids
I spoke to Kuttyma about the attack in Paris and a few days after I spoke to her she came back with questions. We were driving back from school when this conversation took place.
Kuttyma: (pointing to a house) Look that is the France flag
Me: Yes. Why do they think the fly it?
Kuttyma: Because many people die in Paris.
Me: So who killed them?
Kuttyma: Bad people.
Silence
Kuttyma: AMM-Ma (she has this way of stressing certain letters when she wants to ask a question. Usually it makes my stomach flip-flop in fear, love and joy)
Me: Yes chellam.
Kuttyma: Why are some people so bad?
I obviously didn’t have an answer to it. Meanwhile, stop by Indian Moms Connect and read my latest post on talking to kids about tragedies.
