Word of 2019 : FLOW
I have been doing the Word of the Year for a couple of years and it has been a rather rewarding experience. I spend time thinking what I want the year to look like and figure out a word that fits my ideals. And during the course of the year, it is always a great checkpoint and reminder.
During moments of confusion and defeat, of loss and heartbreak, I seek inspiration from my Word of the Year. I remind myself why it is worth it. It is my focus point for the year and my internal compass. I love having a word to focus on.
My 2018 word of the year was march and boy did I march. I lived on to-do lists and planned routines. I marched forward fighting internal and external conflicts. It was definitely a great year.
Given my success with having a word of the year, it was not a difficult decision to come back to the blog to write about my 2019 word of the year. I love seeing my commitment in words. In black and white. I love making an image that I print and display it at my inspiration board at work.
In 2019, I am ready to embrace change and go with the flow. When defined as a noun, flow is the act of moving along in a steady, continuous stream. And that is what I plan to do – move along – steadily and continuously. I do not plan to resist or fight. Instead, I will embrace change and the curveballs life throws. I will try to quit planning months ahead for things that may never happen. Flow, I will.
Will it be easy? Of course not. Trying to break habits and create new ones will definitely be a challenge but I think I need to let go and just flow. Accepting the uncertainties life throws at me, with grace and class has been a dream and 2019 is the year I will take the first step to achieve the goal. Flow, I will.
