Work as usual
My Chennai trips always include a stop at Elliot’s Beach. I made it to the beach thrice this time around. I love the place and my usual rant is how it is slowly turning into a rubbish dump. It has not changed. Infact it was worse on a weekday evening. Everything that should not be in the water was there – plastic bottles, milk bags, clothes, artificial flowers and junk. As I jumped and squealed in delight as the wonderfully cool waters tickled my toes, I could only hope people will think twice before they throw out their trash at a public place.
- The flower seller
- The stall was closed in the morning but the sign sure did demand attention
- Fortunes are made on the shores
- Young girls selling stickers – a sad sight
Life on the beach continued immaterial of the blackening skies and piling trash. Corn on the cob, sundal, suku-malli coffee and fried fritters were in demand. Plastics balls and glow sticks were peddled. Astrologers and transgenders preyed on the naive. I watched it all and fell in love all over again. I will leave you with some pictures.
I live so close to the beach and don’t visit it as often as I would like. With summer days ahead in Queensland, I plan to make most of the days and head to the beaches.
