V: Vivian Cohen

Vivian or Vivy Cohen is a character from Get a Grip, Vivy Cohen!

Vivy is an autistic girl who loves playing baseball. Because of her condition though, she hasn’t been able to play on a team before. But when she gets recruited for the team and her favorite baseball player, VJ Capello, starts writing her back, she feels like nothing can bring her down. After a few nasty incidents, though, Vivy is put on the sidelines, but nothing can stop her from being on the team again. I love how smart and brave Vivy is and how she doesn’t let anything else come in her way. She’s such a great character!

U: Ulysses

Ulysses is a character from Flora and Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo.

Ulysses is a squirrel with superpowers. When he gets sucked into a vacuum, he gets “born anew”. He has limited flying abilities and has super strength. He also can understand English words and write poetry. I loved watching his and Flora’s friendship blossom and the way that they work together. They have such an amazing relationship and the way they work together is immaculate. Ulysses is such a sweet character and I really enjoyed reading about him.

S: Sophia

Sophia is from Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron.

Sophia is a strong character who knows what she wants. I love her relationship with Constance, one of the last people with connection to Cinderella. All throughout the story, Sophia is always brave and tries not to let her fears define her. I love her progress through the story and the way she works through her problems.

P: Percy Jackson

Percy is a Greek demigod. Demigods are children of the gods and mortals (normal humans). There are Greek (children of Greek gods) and Roman demigods (children of Roman gods). Percy is a son of Poseidon, one of the Big Three, meaning that he is one of the most powerful demigods. In fact, he is the most powerful demigod. He controls the water and can sometimes control other substances that are similar to water, like poison or blood. I loved how we got to see Percy progress, from a clueless 12 year old to a 16 year old who has gone through so much (as of Blood of Olympus). I also really enjoyed the cameos he made in other series, especially in the Magnus Chase series. Percy is such a great character and I loved reading about him.

M: Mini Kapoor-Mercado-Lopez

Mini Kapoor-Mercado-Lopez is a character from the Aru Shah series by Roshani Chokshi.

Mini is a Pandava, who is a child of the gods. Each of the Pandavas get reincarnated each century and Mini, along with Aru, Brynne, Nikita, and Sheela are the modern day Pandavas. Mini starts out as a young girl who worries about germs and diseases. As the series goes on, I can see her starting to grow older. While she still has the same worries, I can tell how much she’s learned and how far she’s come. I love the way she works with her soul sisters (the Pandavas) and the way that they’re such a good fit for each other.
